Chinese Gua Bao recipe | Vegan version

Here comes one of my most favourite Chinese street foods – Gua Bao or Bao Bun! It’s not the classical version of the recipe though, but rather a veganized one. I had removed the pork belly meat and pork fat from recipe, substituting them with BBQ Seitan and vegan non-dairy butter (therefore – not pure white colour of the dough, but rather light yellow/beige).

Ingredients for the Gua Bao dough:

  • 2 ½ tbsp Sugar
  • 6 g Traditional Active Dry Yeast
  • 190 g Soymilk
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 260 g Bread Flour
  • ½ tsp Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp Baking Soda
  • Juice of ½ Lemon
